Now, however, I stand ready and content to expose my vulnerabilities. I refused to admit my differences, stupidity, and ignorance. I once wore this fake mask because I felt inferior and exposed against my peers – peers who held presidential scholarships, peers who graduated high school as valedictorians. As appreciative as I am, I choose today to no longer don this fake mask. ![]() Although deceptive to everyone including myself, this mask allowed me to walk through the endeavors I’ve chosen thus far. Bearing this mask, I feigned confidence to announce to my parents my plans for pharmacy school continuing to bear this mask, I learned to legitimately love studying and learning. As I sit here reflecting on the past 6 years of my post-secondary education career, I realize how much I should thank this mask I wore. Nonetheless, I continued wearing that picture-perfect mask of a studious Sher. Unfortunately, that was only possible until my senior year of high school my grades then slipped away slowly throughout college. Rather than studying effectively, I mastered late night study sessions, practiced extreme procrastination, and expertized Google search techniques. ![]() Instead of fulfilling my duty as a studious first-generation student, I delved into arts and games as a young, testing child. Between the handful of FireFox windows busily buffering YouTube lectures, I parked my in-game avatars and instant messengers idly on the hidden taskbar. Between the scattered legitimate class notes on my desk, I tucked away sheets of pristine white paper that awaited for me to doodle and to bring to life.
